Brief Overview of the Society
|
Indian Society for Prehistoric and Quaternary Studies (ISPQS) was founded in 1976. It was registered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on 3rd. July, of that year.
The society is dedicated to supporting and promoting research on prehistory and the quaternary period of the Indian subcontinent.
Currently the society has about five hundred members, including members from foreign countries.
The society's annual conferences are held in December of each year in different cities of India.
The society's journal Man and Environment, published bi-annually, is one of the very few standard journals dedicated to archaeological research in India.
It is well known in the academic community worldwide.
The society also publishes occasional monographs.

To promote and organize interdisciplinary studies of Prehistory and Quaternary Sciences,
and to provide a common platform for archaeologists, geomorphologists, geologists,
environmentalists, anthropologists and other scientists.

- Plan and Organize an Annual Congress, and also from time to time arrange seminars, workshops, conferences, lectures, and discussion meetings for academic purposes.
- Undertake a programme of publications of academic and general nature.
- Encourage and organize Prehistoric and quaternary expeditions.
- Establish liaison with foreign scholars pursuing Prehistoric and Quaternary investigations and arrange study tours to areas of interest outside India.

- Professor H. D. Sankalia Memorial Lecture at the annual conference.
